BRIEF HISTORY OF THE COLLEGE.
The Federal Government Girl's College, Ikot Obio Itong, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria was created on 27th of September, 1987. The creation was as a result of the Federal Government of Nigeria policy of establishing at least two Federal Unity College in each state of the Federation. It went through the necessary formative processes and finally berthed on the 14th of April, 1989. The First student admitted into the College was Miss Anietie Etukudoh.
The College is located in Mkpat Enin local Government Area, 30mins drive from Eket, the home of Mobil Producing Unlimited. Its pioneer Principal Mrs. A.E. Effiom was posted from the prestigious Queens College, Yaba – Lagos. She was assisted by Mr. S.W.B. Yeri. Other pioneer Administrative and Academic Staff were Engr. A.O. Okore for Vocational and Technical department, Mr. E.B. Asuquo for Mathematics Department, Mrs F.E. Akpan for PHE, and Mr. Emmanuel Akpan for the Music Department, who later composed the College anthem.
